Butterfly Container

The main inspiration for the container was the reflection of a branch on water, spotted during a trip to the MacRitchie Trail in Singapore. The use of the grain direction to embody the idea of reflection originated from the technique used to create the Leaf Dish designed by Tapio Wirkkala. The slender curves of the container were inspired by the arch-shaped branch, while the 2 tapered dowels on each end were inspired by protruding sections of the branch. A shallow v-cut, inspired from the details of the Cantilever Bench designed by Dr Chalit Kongsuwan, was added to give the surface a three-dimensionality effect.
