Shift is a table that attempts to restore work-life balance for individuals living and working in 1-room apartments. While during the day Shift functions as a working desk, at night it can be folded flat against the wall, thereby reducing work-related thoughts.

STRUGGLES OF WORK-FROM-HOME

With the onset of Work-From-Home (WFH) due to Covid-19, individuals living in 1-room apartments face the challenge of constantly thinking about work. With the lack of commute and separation of space between work and rest, achieving a work-life balance has become difficult.

RESTORING WORK-LIFE BALANCE

Within a 1-room apartment, work is associated to the desk as it is commonly done on it. To restore work-life balance, Shift has been designed with the ability to be folded into a screen, thereby decreasing work-related thoughts after working-hours.

DESIGNED FOR INTUITIVE USE

Unfolding Shift into a table can be achieved in four simple steps.
1. The lower panels are first pushed to release the magnetic latch securing them.
2. The panels are then swung open completely.
3. Next is unlocking the catch keeping the top panel upright by turning either clockwise or anti-clockwise.
4. Finally, the top panel can be lowered until it touches the lower panels.

SETTING A CALMING AMBIENCE

When folded, Shift features a rhythmic groove pattern. With its interplay of light and shadow, the pattern helps the individual disconnect themselves from work.
