GAN-GAN

Gan-Gan is a 2-parts rolling pin that unifies the varied lengths of rolling pins into one. Inspired by stacked Dim Sum baskets, a dovetail joint connects both pieces. A taper of 8° was chosen for the dovetail angle as a symbol of good fortune. Brass dowels are present along the rolling pin for alignment and aesthetic purposes.

A VARIETY OF LENGTHS
There are rolling pins for making chinese dumplings, rotis, pizza doughs, soba noodles, and they all vary in lengths. In an attempt to create a one-size-fit-all rolling pin, an extendable rolling pin has been crafted.
EXTENDED LENGTH
The inspiration to adjust the length of the rolling pin was taken from stacked Dim Sum baskets. After testing several joining methods, a dovetail joint was chosen for its strength and aesthetic qualities.

AUSPICIOUS QUALITIES
As the inspiration of the project has its roots in Chinese culture, a tapering angle of 8° was used for the dovetails in order to bring god fortune to the user.

A TOUCH OF LUXURY
To elevate the visual appeal of the rolling pin, brass dowels have been added near the ends of each rod to contrast with the natural beauty of the wood.
 
Functionally, these pins guide the user to connect the rods in the correct order.
